Bruce E. Whitacre

Bruce E. Whitacre is a poet, author, translator, and educator whose work spans poetry, fiction, memoir, and the dramatic arts. A Nebraska native, he has built a diverse career across writing, publishing, theatre, and business, before returning to writing full time.

His poetry has appeared in more than thirty five journals and numerous anthologies, and he has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize and Best of the Net. His crown sonnet on the culture of violence won the Nebraska Poetry Society’s 2023 Open Poetry Contest. His books Good Housekeeping and The Elk in the Glade have both received recognition from BookLife Reviews and The BookFest.

Bruce has also translated the work of Italian writer Pier Paolo Pasolini, with his translation of “Notes on Nights” appearing in Cineaste in 2025. Alongside his own writing, he leads workshops on memoir, fiction, poetry, and the art of submitting work for publication.

Bruce holds an MFA in Dramatic Writing from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and has held senior roles with organisations including Manhattan Theatre Club, Signature Theatre, and Theatre Forward.

From 2026, Bruce divides his time between New York, Italy, and Ireland. His current projects include a new poetry manuscript, an Italian translation project, and a fantasy novel.
